If you want to make a gift for your mom (or your mother-in-law, stepmom, grandmother or other mother-figure) there’s no limit to what you could create. You just need a little time, a little creativity, and maybe some ideas to get you started. You probably have plenty of ideas of your own, but if you need a few more, that’s where this list comes in: it’s our running list of 10 best Mother’s Day craft ideas.
Of course, the term “best” is subjective. While we do think these ideas are the best, it’s important to note that we’re always dreaming up more ideas, so this list is sure to grow and expand with time.
1. DIY Mother’s Day Cards
When you make your own Mother’s Day card, you can personalize it in many ways — ways that would be impossible to achieve with store-bought cards. You get complete control over every detail of the card — from how it looks to what it says to how big it is. You can use the very best colors and motifs for the recipient you have in mind, and arrange them in a way that you know she’ll find delightful.
There are bunches of different ways to make Mother’s Day cards. Pictured above is one of my favorites. You can click the picture of the card to go to free instructions at Paperlaces.com.
2. A Heartfelt Scrapbook for Mother’s Day
This is the perfect gift for moms who keep saying “Don’t buy me anything for Mother’s Day!”
If mom is the sentimental type, who cherishes her family and her memories more than material things, you cannot go wrong with this gift. Your comeback will be easy: “But Mom, I didn’t buy this — I made it just for you!”
This is a gift you’ll be able to give for spending some time plus the cost of an album, some photo printing, and some paper, glue and embellishments.
Alternately, you could do the whole thing digitally, and give a photo book instead. Either way, this is a great gift idea that’s perfect for Mother’s Day.

Of particular interest is our vacation scrapbooks section. Did you and mom ever take a special vacation together? If so, you could make mom a vacation scrapbook to remind her of your adventures.
Another idea: make her a scrapbook showcasing family photos.
Yet another idea: a scrapbook that’s all about why you love her and what makes her special to you.
If your mom appreciates unique, one-of-a-kind handmade beaded jewelry, a necklace is a gift that might catch her eye. You could make a lovely necklace for her using her favorite sorts of beads, stones and pendant.
If you want to just make some quick, pretty gifts that don’t cost much but look sophisticated and chic, crocheted bracelets are the way to go. If your mom wears bracelets, I’m betting she’ll love these!
5. A Gorgeous Scarf
6. A Gourmet Gift Basket
Whether mom loves coffees and teas, delicious chocolates, gourmet treats, or tasty organic fruits, a treat basket is a great gift she’s sure to appreciate. You can buy a basket and fill it full, but you could also make your own basket if you prefer. Pictured here is a basket you can crochet using a pattern that’s available for free on the Internet. You can get even more free basket patterns at knittingandcrochet.net.
7. A Bath Basket With a Home-Spa Theme
Like everyone else, moms have an ongoing need for soaps, lotions and / or fragrances. Could she ever have too many of these? Especially the handmade variety.
If you’re feeling really creative, you can make everything you put in the basket — and even the basket itself. If you’re pressed for time, you can make some things to put in the basket, and buy the rest.
Here are some ideas for things you can include in your gift basket:
- Luxurious knitted or crocheted washcloths
- Hand towels — Pictured here, we have store-bought towels that I enhanced by adding lace edgings. You can find bunches of trim and edging patterns at knittingandcrochet.net.
- Handmade soaps or other nice soaps — Pictured here are some organic soaps scented with lavender and other fragrances
- Bath puffs
- Shower gel
- Bubble bath
- Bath fizzies
- Bath salts
- Skin creams
- Lip Balms
Does Mom love to decorate? Does she have ultra-modern taste in home décor? If so, a unique piece of contemporary art could win her heart this Mother’s Day.
Here’s another gift idea for moms who love to decorate. Even the lady who has everything probably doesn’t have handmade beaded napkin rings.
If Mom loves to stay connected via her cell phone or smartphone, a pretty cell phone cozy could be a lovely gift for her.
